Welcome Church
The Welcome Church Community Building project involved the transformation of a vacant late-1980s office building located adjacent to the main church in Woking. Having remained unused for several years, the building presented a valuable opportunity to support the church’s growing congregation and expanding community outreach initiatives.
In response to a significant increase in Sunday attendance, alongside the church’s ambition to establish an affordable community grocery, Welcome Church made the strategic decision to acquire and comprehensively refurbish the property. The redevelopment focused on modernising the building to meet current operational and environmental standards, including the installation of a new roof, energy-efficient heat pump systems, and low-energy lighting.
The refurbished facility now provides high-quality, flexible spaces designed to support children’s and youth programmes and a range of community-based schemes central to the church’s mission of serving the Woking community. These initiatives include the delivery of accessible support services and the operation of the church’s community grocery, helping to address local needs.
We were appointed as Project Manager and Cost Consultant for the scheme, continuing our long-standing relationship with Welcome Church, having previously fulfilled the same roles for the original church building next door. This continuity enabled a strong understanding of the client’s vision and ensured the successful delivery of a project that enhances both the church’s capacity and its community impact.
