Breathing life back in to Horton Chapel in Epsom

Transforming Epsom’s neglected heritage into a new vibrant arts and heritage centre

Restoration and refurbishment work has now commenced at Epsom’s Grade II listed Horton Chapel which has stood empty for many years. MEA are providing Project Management and Quantity Surveying services to this exciting community led project.

Horton Chapel was built in 1901 to serve the Horton Asylum, but has been empty and unused since the early 1990s.

Horton Chapel Arts & Heritage Society, who are a group of Epsom residents, are the driving force behind the project which will see the chapel renovated and converted into a vibrant new arts centre, with flexible spaces that highlight the building’s heritage features. The centre will provide community space for hire and the exhibition and café will be a focal point for local people and will be open to all.

The project vision has been developed in consultation with the community and local partners, and is being supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, Architectural Heritage Fund and Power to Change, with completion expected in Summer 2020.
