With nearly sixty years in the construction industry, we’ve witnessed major shifts—none more significant than the growing focus on sustainability. Over the past decade, advances in materials, construction methods, and renewable technologies have accelerated progress, but there’s still a long way to go. Achieving the UK Government’s net zero target by 2050 demands urgent action across the entire sector—including from us.
In February, we took a proactive step by joining Surrey County Council’s Decarbonisation Course, delivered in partnership with the Sustainable Business Network (a Zero Carbon Guildford initiative) as part of Surrey’s Greener Future programme.
The course deepened our understanding of decarbonisation in business operations. We gained valuable knowledge on capturing and calculating emissions, building a tailored decarbonisation plan, and taking measurable action.
Key Takeaways from the Decarbonisation Course:
- Identifying our business emissions to locate high-impact areas and implement quick wins
- Reducing energy consumption and waste in day-to-day operations
- Using tools to measure and monitor our carbon footprint
- Developing a realistic and achievable decarbonisation strategy for long-term impact
This is just the beginning of our decarbonisation journey, and we’re committed to continuous improvement. Our goal is to make meaningful changes that contribute to a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.
A huge thank you to Paul Juniper for championing this initiative.
Stay tuned for updates as we put our decarbonisation plan into action.
