Onion Collective
Thanks to the ambitious vision of Onion Collective CIC, a local female-led not-for-profit social enterprise, an abandoned boat yard in Watchet harbour has been transformed into an extraordinary and award winning arts hub aimed at enhancing the culture and economy of the coastal town and it’s surrounding areas.
East Quay Arts Centre is a unique and eye-catching development, designed by award-winning architect Invisible Studio. The development comprises two contemporary art galleries, eleven artist studios, a paper mill, a geology workshop, print studio, restaurant, education space, and five accommodation pods. The centre seamlessly blends into its surroundings, drawing inspiration from both the built environment and the natural landscape.
Works included construction of the unique building plus full Cat B fit-out ready for occupation. Working as Quantity Surveyor and Contract Administrator, MEA Clark delivered the cost planning, tendering, contract administration, onsite valuations and agreed the final account of this project.
Since completion, East Quay has gained numerous accolades, including 2023 RIBA National Client of the Year, 2023 RIBA South West Client of the Year, Project of the Year, and the prestigious Regional Award.
