The Abbey School in Farnham, part of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust, is a secondary school catering to students aged 11–16 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This project, supported by investment from Surrey County Council forms part of their SEND Sufficiency Strategy. By expanding the school’s capacity from a two-form to a three-form entry they are better equipped to meet the growing demand for specialist education spaces in the area.
The ambitious development has added general and specialist teaching spaces for subjects such as Computing, Food Technology, Art, Music and Drama, and Design Technology. Two modern Science labs were included, alongside a full-size sports hall, a multi-use games area (MUGA), and upgraded PE changing rooms. The expansion also introduced a fully equipped school office, a welcoming visitor reception area, staff room and meeting facilities. Enhanced technology—such as improved WiFi, interactive whiteboards, and a secure network—further elevated the teaching and learning environment.
The project was delivered successfully despite the challenges of working in a live school environment. Carefully planned phasing minimised disruption, with major works strategically scheduled during school holidays to ensure continuity for students and staff.
