New Sports Hall at Guildford County School

It has been a pleasure to be part of the team delivering the long awaited new Sports Hall at Guildford County School.

The new four court sports hall has been constructed to Sport England standards with new changing spaces, a multi-gym/fitness area, a dance studio, classroom and support space. The hall links seamlessly to the existing school buildings providing a fully integrated sports facility for the pupils, staff and visitors to enjoy. Due to the location of the building the logistics provided some challenges, the most notable being the construction of a 4m deep basement to house the hall to minimise the impact on neighbouring residential properties.

The new facilities now enable the School to accommodate the majority of their sports curriculum on site and to increase the number of sports on offer. These include basketball, badminton, volleyball, indoor netball, trampolining, rowing and handball. In addition to the benefits the new facility will bring to the school community, it also provides an accessible city-centre sports hub within walking distance of Guildford mainline railway station, which will be of benefit to community users outside of school hours.

MEA are exceptionally proud to have worked with Guildford County School providing quantity surveying services to help deliver key elements of their masterplan over the last decade. Our projects have included the new art block, refurbishment of the 6th Form Centre, numerous internal refurbishment and improvement projects, the provision of new staff facilities, a new classroom block, the completion of the new floodlit MUGA and of course the brand new Sports Hall. We have also assisted the school with funding applications as part of our service delivery.
