Three Rivers Academy has received yet another accolade by making the shortlist for the 2018 Concrete Society Awards. The Awards, which are now in their 50th year, are a celebration of the best projects in the UK with concrete as the majority structural component. They recognise excellence in concrete design and construction and are the longest running awards in the industry.
MEA’s subsidiary, Building Schools for Nothing (BSfN), created a near unique £40m funding strategy for delivering the new school. MEA provided project management and quantity surveying services. Mark Saint, MEA director and BSfN MD, will be attending the awards ceremony in London on 21st November as a guest of Arup, who provided civil, structural, geotechnical and fire engineering services to the project. The structure is an in-situ concrete frame featuring an integrated slab and beam design which minimises the columns required and provides clear spans across the mall.
This accolade is the latest for Three Rivers Academy which is one of only ten schools across the globe (and the only UK school) to be nominated for an award at this year’s World Architecture Festival (WAF). It has also made the shortlist for the Best Pupil/Student Experience at the Education Estates Awards which take place later this month in Manchester.
