Located in the heart of the South Downs National Park, Seven Sisters Country Park is one of the UK’s most iconic landscapes. Covering 280 hectares of diverse habitats such as chalk grasslands, wetlands, and grazing marshes, the park attracts around 500,000 visitors annually. Its ecological significance has earned it near-total designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), underscoring its environmental importance.

MEA is proud to have provided Quantity Surveying services for a series of impactful renovation and development projects within Seven Sisters Country Park. Our work included the renovation of the Grade II listed Visitor Centre, the conversion of the listed Dairy Barn into functional office space, and the transformation of a listed toilet block into a modern Grab & Go café. In addition, the refurbishment of the Rangers’ Office and the creation of new public convenience facilities to better serve the park’s visitors.

Phase two began on-site as phase one reached practical completion. This phase included the refurbishment and alteration of three cottages into modern holiday accommodations and the upgrade of the camping barn and associated facilities, ensuring these heritage assets meet contemporary standards while preserving their historic character.

Currently, further works are underway, focusing on upgrading the site’s drainage system to enhance the park’s infrastructure for future sustainability.

Since the completion of phase two in 2022, the renovation at Seven Sisters Country Park has been recognised with several prestigious awards, including the AJ Retrofit Award for Listed Buildings (up to £5 million) and the Public and Community category award at the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards, celebrating the project’s success in sustainable conservation and heritage preservation.
