Previously a historic ironmonger in the city of Portsmouth, the Treadgolds site has been repurposed as a multi-use community centre.
Widely acclaimed as a type of Victorian time capsule, it retains a Dickensian feel with its dark shop full of nuts & bolts, fascinating tools & fitting, machinery and much more.
The careful restoration of this Grade II listed building included transformation of the Victorian warehouse space into a performance area with a separate teaching space on the mezzanine above, and a dedicated entrance from Bishop Street. Special care was taken to preserve the unique Victorian features and add modern industrial materials to maximise the space whilst keeping the unique aesthetic.
Working as Quantity Surveyors, MEA delivered the cost planning, tendering, onsite valuations as well as agreed final account of this project.
Since completion, this project has received a RIBA South Award 2022, A SPACES award 2021 and was also shortlisted for an AJ Small Project award in 2021 and A RIBA MacEwan Award 2021.
